The Daily Show: Michael Steele Former RNC Chairman Rips The RNC Over Treatment of Ron Paul. “[The RNC] is afraid of that which they cannot control. And, to the extent that they feel they cannot control him in those moments, the whole idea of freedom of speech is kind of like, ‘Well…’”
“The confidence I gained with ammunition supplied by Rothbard encouraged my entry into politics. […] Rothbard taught me to always keep the distinction between peaceful market activity and State coercion in my mind. It served as a constant guide once I was in office.”
I don’t normally post this stuff but this got my blood boiling really quickly. This is the most evidence I’ve seen for condemning the Republican Party for their lack of principles. It’s disgusting. H/T Brian
“Most people carry that pain around inside them their whole lives until they kill the pain by other means or until it kills them. But you, my friends, you found another way: a way to use the pain. To burn it as fuel, for light and warmth. You have learned to break the world that has tried to break you.”
I’ve often times questioned my interest in politics. Honestly, all of the squabbling that goes on between the left and right annoys me to no end and that’s why I find myself avoiding a good majority of political debates as they’re fruitless. I mean, God knows I have opinions about everything. But there’s a few “political” issues that I find to be not-so-political but oh-so-important. I think the most important issue for me is war and the atrocities that innocent men, women, and children are subjected to because their government is not getting along with ours. Honestly, it’s more of a humanitarian issue. It’s not the politicians who are seeing combat. We have been blessed to grow up in a country where we haven’t had to know war like the children in Afghanistan, Pakistan, or Iraq have. I think it is dangerous for people to shut themselves off from what’s being done in their names abroad to men, women, and children who have done nothing to harm us. Or the 45+ inmates of Guantanamo who have been convicted of no crimes yet have been incarcerated for years. This is absolutely tragic. I beg you to stop arguing about things like federally funded birth control and look at what’s happening on the other side of the Atlantic to innocent human beings.
“On the campaign trail, Barack Obama’s advisers said he ‘can’t rule out [and] won’t rule out’ using mercenary forces, like Blackwater. Now, it appears that the Obama administration has decided on its hired guns of choice: Triple Canopy , a Chicago company now based in Virginia. It may not have Blackwater’s thuggish reputation, but Triple Canopy has its own bloody history in Iraq and a record of hiring mercenaries from countries with atrocious human rights records. What’s more, Obama is not just using the company in Iraq, but also as a U.S.-government funded private security force in Israel/Palestine, operating out of Jerusalem.”
“Taxes is illegal. You shouldn’t be able to tax income. If I fix your roof and you wanna pay me in 20 pounds of bananas, do you think Uncle Sam wants 45 percent of my bananas? But because you paying me $400,000 in currency he wants a part of that, but my mom don’t got no brother named Sam, so I don’t have no Uncle Sam.”
— Beanie Sigel, on being convicted of tax evasion.
